The impact of Asia’s emerging middle class

Executives may be underestimating the effect on their businesses of so many new middle class consumers.

In this video from a McKinsey conference in Dubai in September 2007, a panel of prominent editors address “Business Trends no one is paying attention to.” Rik Kirkland, former senior editor at large of FORTUNE magazine and now McKinsey’s director of publishing, explores the implications of the rapid rise of the middle class in China and India, which is increasingly likely to achieve the lifestyles enjoyed in the west. He is joined by Ed Carr, business affairs editor of the Economist, and John Gapper of the Financial Times.
